Sixth grade students in the Visions program at Winona Elementary School will be airing a weekly news segment weekly called Tiger Talk. Last week, the first segment aired for students of the Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District to glowing reviews.
Teacher Amber Austin explained that the news segment was conceived to assist Vision students with a key skill in the gifted program.
“Communication skills is one of their outcomes for gifted education,” Austin said.
The news segment was created in iMovie, and it was emailed to teachers to air on their Promethean Boards in the classrooms.
Planning to release a new segment each week, Tiger Talk will feature sports information, interviews from across the district and the Montgomery County community, and other features of interest to their fellow students.
The first segment featured an interview with Winona High School Football Coach Joey Tompkins.
Austin said after the first segment aired, the project received rave reviews.
“The sixth graders are famous,” Austin said.
