Tiger with mouth open

It’s a Great Day to be a Tiger!

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMING

Winona Elementary Principal Tabitha McCrory and After-School Administrator Arica Anderson are pleased to share the following information about the WES After-School Program.  Students say that they look forward to staying for the programs which are scheduled on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.  That is certainly evident in the number of students attending with 71 students participating in the academic program and 85 participating in the enrichment program.  The curriculum that is used targets specific standards that are the most important skills needed for each student’s grade level.

OPERATIONS

Your TIGER teams are going strong with the volleyball team earning their 10th win this season, the football team improving to 4-0, and the cross country team making great strides at each competition.  Check out the calendar at winonamontgomerycsd.com and come support your favorite TIGER teams.

In an effort to maintain a safe and orderly environment at our home sporting events and ensure that our TIGER fans can enjoy the games, we are asking parents/guardians to help us by reviewing these expectations with your students before they attend a game.

Student Behavior Expectations at WMCSD Sporting Events

All students 6th grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

All students must be seated during the game.

Concessions and restrooms are available at all sporting events. After going to the concession stand or restroom, students should return to their seats.

Students should not bring footballs, soccer balls, kick balls, etc. to the games.

The code of conduct in the student handbook extends to all WMCSD school events. Any student who does not follow the code of conduct will be removed from the game.  No money will be refunded and the student will not be allowed to attend any future sporting events for the reminder of the school year.  Significant disruptions and policy violations are subject to further disciplinary action.

Always exhibit good sportsmanship:

o   Be respectful during the National Anthem, school songs, and player introductions.

o   Never boo or yell at officials or opposing players.

o   Cheer for the TIGERS.

o   Represent WMCSD and your school in a positive manner.

o   Be respectful of other students and adults attending the game

Transportation is going very well.  Thank you to Transportation Director Mr. Jeff Davis and all of the WMCSD drivers and bus monitors.

COMMUNICATIONS

We use several communication programs to help us stay in constant contact with parents.  We have an all-call system called AIM that allows us to call groups of people or the entire district at one time with a recorded message.  We make great use of the district’s website and app for iPhone and Android devices by Apptegy.  These are fantastic tools that let us send messages and post news and information to our website and Facebook and Twitter accounts all at the same time.  We would love to have you follow us on Facebook and Twitter.  SchoolStatus is also used by teachers and administrators to call, text, and/or email parents with important information or school news.

We have multiple ways for parents to contact us through SchoolStatus, school emails, the district’s email hotline tigertalk@winonaschools.net, and the most common way is through telephone calls to the main office.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

COVID Information - Parents, please remember that if your child develops symptoms, keep them at home and contact your medical provider.  If your child has a positive COVID test, inform the school by contacting the school nurse’s office at the number listed below.  Please note that we are unable to accept results from home test kits; only results from a licensed healthcare provider or pharmacist will be accepted.

  • Winona Elementary (Grades PreK-6) 283-4129 - Nurse Felisha Pitt

  • Winona Secondary (Grades 7-12)  283-1244 - Nurse Skyla McIntyre

School safety is extremely important to the WMCSD Board of Trustees and to each employee of the district. At the beginning of the year, students attending Winona Elementary and Winona Secondary are taught the information in their respective student handbooks.  Students are reminded of the school safety rules throughout the year in a variety of ways.

Safety plans and preventative measures are in place and frequently monitored.  Some of these measures include locked exterior and interior doors, fences, cameras, and a buzz-in system for the front entrances.  WMCSD is also fortunate to have its own police department with certified law enforcement officers called school resource officers (SRO).  The WMCSD Police Department and the Superintendent of Education work closely with local law enforcement of the Winona Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

TECHNOLOGY

WMCSD is accepting applications for assistant director of technology.  If you are interested, please apply online.
