Statement Released via All Call to Parents and Employees
The location of the incident is Winona Elementary School.
"This is Dr. Teresa Jackson, Superintendent of WMCSD with an important message for our parents and employees.
On Monday, September 20, 2021, at approximately 2:00pm, students reported to teachers that a student had a gun. Administrators were called to the scene where an unloaded firearm was found on the campus. The Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District Chief School Resource Officer (SRO) was called to the scene to investigate alongside the school principal. It was determined that the gun was brought to school by a minor student. That student has been suspended pending a hearing. After a thorough search, no bullets nor a clip have been located. Beginning Tuesday morning, counselors will be available for students and staff.
If you have questions you may call the Superintendent’s Office at 662-283-3731 during school hours or email us at tigertalk@winonaschools.net."
