WINONA – The board of trustees for the Winona-Montgomery School District recently approved a new district logo, designed by Winona Secondary School senior and art student Hannah Stanley (pictured above left with art teacher Shirley Hamilton).
According to Dr. Howard Savage, Jr., Superintendent of Education, the board initiated the new design to reflect the various communities throughout the county linked together to form a united Tiger “nation.” In addition, “consolidation” will be dropped from the district’s name, now known as the Winona-Montgomery School District.
“The new logo symbolizes a new beginning for the Winona-Montgomery School District,” Savage said. “We are moving into the future, past the consolidation with a new energy for a fresh start.”
He continued, “The school board and I are serious about our district being one of the best school districts in the state. We are making improvements throughout the district – improvements to our buildings, athletic facilities, and the very culture of our organization. A new logo – one created uniquely for the Winona-Montgomery School District – exemplifies the growth we are making on our campuses and in student achievement.”
When seeking ideas for a new logo, Savage sought the assistance of longtime art teacher Shirley Hamilton for direction. Hamilton encouraged senior art student Hannah Stanley to try her hand at the design.
“She is very good with pencil sketches,” said Hamilton.
In addition, Stanley took home Best in Show at the district’s art show in 2023. She has been a student of Hamilton’s since her fourth-grade year when she participated in the afterschool program.
“She has also helped with the afterschool art program for the past three years,” Hamilton said.
Savage touted Stanley’s talent and her vision in creating the new logo.
“The district is proud to have one of our own students create the new face of the Winona-Montgomery School District,” Savage said. “We applaud her talent and her vision.”
