We've had a great first day!
Transportation is running a little behind as we work to get all students on the correct buses. Please be patient with us as we work out the details.
WMCSD Transportation Director Jeff Davis is getting ready for the first day of school by cleaning and servicing all buses. We are adding three new buses to the fleet this year. Our buses transport students from every corner of Montgomery county which is an area of 408 sq miles.
WMCSD is pleased to announce the addition of 3 academic interventionists for the 2021-22 school year. Joy Day and Kanequa Willis will serve students at Winona Elementary, and Katrina King will serve students at Winona Secondary. Please help us congratulate and welcome them!

All students and staff at Winona Secondary School are safe. On Friday, November 6, 2020, an adult male entered the Winona Career and Technical Center. When the person was asked to leave, he refused and exhibited behavior that was not appropriate for a school setting. The person fled to a nearby business where he was arrested. Thank you to the WMCSD and Winona Police Departments for their quick response and efforts to keep our schools safe.
The WHS Football Team has some players and coaches quarantined due to close contact with a person who had a positive test result for COVID-19. The Tigers were scheduled to be off this week, and the October 30th game against Pisgah has been cancelled. All thoughts and prayers are appreciated. #WMCSD #ItsaGreatDaytobeaTiger
It’s a Great Day to be a TIGER! Congratulations to our Homecoming Queen, Tamirah Hamilton! Thank you to everyone who helped make the homecoming presentation and crowning a special event.
Academic Programming Monday, October 12th was the beginning of the second nine weeks and the first day of having all students back attending school on a traditional schedule. Students will not attend school Friday, October 16, 2020, as teachers will be involved in professional development about blended learning and improving instruction. Students will have assignments to complete on Friday for at-home learning.
Operations Operations Officer Charlie Parkerson shared the following information with the Board of Trustees at Tuesday night’s meeting. Entegrity has completed the installation of LED lighting throughout the district. New air conditioners are being installed at Winona Secondary. This work is being done at night so no classes are disrupted during the school day. This project should be completed in November. The roofing project is being done by Dixie Roofing of Winona and should be completed this week. The windows for WSS are being fabricated and installation should begin around the first of the year.
Football will be back at home this week against Humphreys County at 7:00 pm at Tiger Stadium. Volleyball ended a great season with a win.
Family and Community Support The next meeting of the Superintendent’s P16 Advisory Council/COVID-19 Task Force will be Monday, October 19th at 3:00 pm.
Health and Safety Parents, we need your help in making sure that students need to wear a clean mask to school each day. Most masks can be washed in the machine with other clothes or hand washed and hung up to dry.
As stated in reopening plans, we encourage parents to bring their children to school by private vehicle. It is impossible to physically distance most routes when all the children ride. The car rider line moves quickly and efficiently at both schools.
You can find the WMCSD COVID-19 Weekly Report on our website. The report for the previous week is released each Monday at 1:30 pm.

AT-HOME LEARNER INFORMATION FOR Winona Secondary Students
Students must check their school email every morning and afternoon for updates. It is so important that at-home learning students and parents work on their assignments every day. WSS At-Home Learners in grades 7-12 are required to come to school every Friday at 8:00am whether they have an assigned test or not.
Students should bring their own headphones for testing and must check in with Ms. Bishop regarding progress even if they do not have a test to complete.
Friday - September 11 - At-Home Learners will not attend as Hybrid Schedule students will be attending on that day.
Enhanced Hybrid
Beginning September 14, HYBRID students will participate in an ENHANCED HYBRID SCHEDULE. The school day will be about an hour longer with start times being the same. On September 9, schedules will be posted on our website and sent home with students the 9th and 10th.
Enhanced Hybrid for Winona Secondary Students in grades 7-12 will attend every other Friday based on an assigned schedule. For example:
Week of Sept 14: Monday/Wednesday students will also attend on Friday, Sept 18.
Week of Sept 21: Tuesday/Thursday students will also attend on Friday, Sept 26.
Again, the goal is to return to a traditional schedule as soon as possible while still being able to maintain the protocols needed to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Football Tickets are on sale until 10:00am this morning. There will be no tickets sold at the game tonight.
