Super Tiger News

It’s a Great Day to be a Tiger!

The new year has gotten off to a fantastic start.  Students are glad to be with their friends, and we are so happy to have students back in school.  The WMCSD vision is Working together, Moving forward, Creating opportunities for Student success and Dynamic futures, and this year’s theme is The Power of Positivity.  We are so looking forward to all the opportunities the district will have to be a positive influence in our community.

Athletic Director Veronica Helms wants to remind you to attend Meet the Tigers Friday, August 12th at 7:00pm.  Admission is $5.00, and the Athletic Boosters will have several items for sale.  We have several fundraisers going on now for cheer, band, and colorguard.

The Tiger Cheerleaders are selling advertising for the 2022 Tiger Football Program.  Prices range from $35 for a quarter page advertisement to $125 for a full-page color advertisement.   For more information, contact a member of the cheerleading team or call sponsor Deanna Lowery at 662-283-1244 and leave a message.  Deadline for advertising sales is August 12.

WHS Football action this week will include the Oxford Jamboree on August 19th where the Tigers will take on Senatobia at 4:00pm. Tickets are available only on GoFan and the link is available on the WMCSD Facebook and Twitter Pages. Regular season football games will begin at 7:30pm during the months of August and September.

WHS Volleyball will be back in action on Thursday, August 11th at home.  Admission is $7.00.

The WHS Band is selling raffle tickets for a $500 gas card. The drawing will be held on August 12th. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from any band member.

The WHS Color Guard is selling raffle tickets for a signed Peter’s Pottery pasta bowl. The drawing will be held on August 31st.  Tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20.  Please contact one of the WHS Color Guard members or sponsor Corey Miletello to purchase tickets.  You can reach Mrs. Miletello by calling 662-283-1244 and leaving a message.  You can also Venmo her for tickets @Corey-Miletello.

We need parents like you to join our parent organizations such as PTO, Athletic Boosters, and Band Boosters.  For more information, contact your child’s school.

Transportation has been outstanding with buses leaving the schools on time by the third day of school.  It is quite a feat to get nearly 1,100 students to and from school each day.  Thank you to our Transportation Director Jeff Davis, bus drivers, monitors, administrators, and teachers for all the work that goes into making this a smooth process.

Child Nutrition menus can be found on our website at winonamontgomerycsd.com.  Click on Menu, then choose Dining.  This will take you to the August folder of menus.  Be sure to read the names of the menus as PreK, K-6 and 7-12 have different lunch menus.  According to Child Nutrition Director Betty Forrest, this year students have the option of two entrees, two fruits, and two vegetables.  For those of you who have been out of school for awhile, menus include entree options such as grilled fajita salad, tuna salad, spicy chicken sandwich, cheesy chicken rice, beefy nachos grande, buffalo hot wings, and cheeseburgers to name just a few.

Meal applications are available online and should be completed by every student’s family.  All students will receive free breakfast and lunch this school year, but the meal application information may give the district and families additional opportunities and benefits.

Our buildings look fantastic thanks to the renovations and decorating talents of our teachers.  Thank you to everyone who helped get our schools ready for the first day. If you have a question or concern about buildings or grounds, you can email us at tigertalk@winonaschools.net.

According to WMCSD Business Manager Amanda Gray, the budget for fiscal year 2022-2023 was presented and approved at the August 9, 2022, Regular Board Meeting.  There will be no tax increase due to the Montgomery County millage rate increase which benefited the district with an additional $36,000.00 for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.  The WMCSD FY23 Budget will be published in The Winona Times in the coming week.

16th Section Manager Lynea Watson shared that upon recommendation of the MS Forestry Commission on June 28, 2022, the WMCSD Board awarded bids for the cutting of timber on Section 16, T 17 N, R 8 East, consisting of 108 acres, to Harrison Logging of Duck Hill, MS, and for the thinning of timber on Section 16, T 20 N, R 6 East, consisting of 247 acres, to Edwin Taylor Logging of Duck Hill, MS.  Additionally, the WMCSD has eight (8) 16th Section property leases that will be up for bids beginning in September 2022 and concluding in December 2022 for both agricultural and hunting leases.   All public notices for 16th Section bids can be found in The Winona Times in the coming weeks.

The next regular meeting of the WMCSD Board is September 13th at 6:00pm at the Superintendent’s Office.

The Power of Positivity is evident in WMCSD!
