Tiger with mouth open

It’s a Great Day to be a TIGER!

Academic Programming Next week will be our ninth week in school. Students and employees are adapted well to the Enhanced Hybrid Schedule which means all students attend for the full day and secondary students (grades 7-12) have an additional day every two weeks by attending every other Friday according to their schedules. District and school leaders continue to meet regularly to discuss plans for the second nine weeks.  I can assure you that the decisions are not easy as we must consider both academic needs and health and safety protocols.  We are blessed to be able to meet with the Mississippi Department of Health Drs. Dobbs and Byers each Friday morning to hear the latest information and ask all questions we have.

WMCSD is currently seeking applications for a certified special education teacher at Winona Secondary School (7-12).  Applications should be filled out online at www.winonamontgomerycsd.com.

Operations Senior Night for volleyball is Thursday, October 1.  Congratulations on an outstanding inaugural season for these young ladies and their coaches! This week, the football team will be traveling to Madison Central. Your Winona Tigers are 4-0 on the season and have had some great games so far.  You can listen to the games on our local radio station the HAWG 95.1.  The cross country team will be traveling to competition this weekend. Please see the calendar at winonamontgomerycsd.com for dates and times of athletic events.

We are looking forward to Homecoming October 9th.  As you may have heard Ethel High School has cancelled athletic events for the next two weeks due to COVID concerns in their district.  We are in the process of looking for a replacement game and will share more information as it becomes available.

Entegrity almost through replacing all lights throughout the district with energy efficient LED lighting.  The windows for Winona Secondary School are in production and roofing projects should begin soon.  The first new heating and cooling units are going in this week at Winona Secondary School.

Family and Community Support If you have questions about at-home learning and need assistance, please contact our Family Engagement/Technology Educators.  Ms. Nikita Smith at Winona Elementary and Mrs. Holly Bridges at Winona Career and Technical Center are available to answer any questions you have about Google Classroom and virtual learning.  The contact for the WSS Edgenuity program is Interim Principal Ms. Donna Bishop.

Health and Safety Our students and teachers have done an outstanding job of learning all the new protocols related to reducing the spread of COVID-19.  As of September 30, we have one employee and one student who are required to quarantine due to close contact with a family member.  No cases to date can be traced back to an employee or student attending our schools.

COVID-19 information is reported weekly and can be found at this link Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District or by visiting our website at winonamontgomerycsd.com and clicking on Menu>Documents>COVID-19 Weekly Reports.

Please be reminded that in order to protect the health and safety of others, if you are sick stay home.  If a student, employee, or anyone in their house is sick or showing symptoms of COVID-19, we need them to stay home until they feel better or can determine if the symptoms are related to the coronavirus or something else.  Symptoms of COVID-19 include: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.

We are currently seeking applications for one School Resource Officer.  Applications should be filled out online at www.winonamontgomerycsd.com.

Communications Don’t forget about our website and social media pages for all the latest school district information.  The COVID-19 Weekly Report is released Mondays at 1:30pm, and the weekly update is released Wednesdays at 6:00pm.

Technology/Learning Management Systems Our order for 1,300 Chromebooks was placed on September 10th using a portion of the ESSER funds allocated for our district.  We are hearing that they may be delivered mid-October, but we have no way of checking to verify that information.  We will keep everyone updated on our progress toward providing every student in the district with a device.

Stay healthy and choose joy!
