Tiger with mouth open

It’s a Great Day to be a TIGER!  We are so thankful to have made it to the second week of school with no positive tests in students and only three employees quarantined. These employees never came in contact with any students.  WMCSD has over 1,200 students and 200 employees.  Please continue to keep our schools and families in your thoughts and prayers as we work together to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Sick Tigers, Stay Home - In order to protect the health and safety of others, we continue to remind everyone that if you are sick, stay home.  If a student, employee, or anyone in their house is sick or showing symptoms of COVID-19, we need them to stay home until they feel better or can determine if the symptoms are related to the coronavirus or something else.  Symptoms of COVID-19 include: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.

Come on, Tigers!  On Friday and Tuesday, 106 students registered for school.  Those students who chose the hybrid schedule will be added on the days with the least number of students so we can continue to keep class sizes small.  The average class size at this time is 6 students.

Winona Elementary At-Home Learning Students will be attending training on Friday, August 21st from 8:00-10:30am.  Students will wear clothing that meets the dress code and a face covering.  Students will be screened with health questions and temperature checks.  They will receive their usernames and passwords, practice using online programs, and learn how to turn in assignments.  Students will receive learning materials such as books and workbooks needed to complete their assignments.  Drop off will begin at 8:50am in the car rider line, and gates will be locked at 9:00am.  Students may bring their own wireless devices with a keyboard from home so they can practice on what they are actually using.

Facilities - If you see workers dressed in bright green shirts in and around the schools, that is the Entegrity crew working on our energy savings and facilities improvement project.  They work in the afternoons so there is no interruption of instruction and there are no extra people in the building while our students are present.  Entegrity is an energy services, sustainability, and solar development company specializing in the implementation of energy conservation and renewable energy projects.  The first phase of our project is replacing every light bulb in the district with LED bulbs.  There are many benefits to WMCSD’s partnership with Entegrity.  We received a lighting audit to determine the costs, annual energy savings, tax incentives, and utility rebates associated with this project.  All of the products used have a 7-year warranty which includes repairing or replacing everything from lamps, wires, connections, and drivers to the fixtures.  We are also guaranteed improved energy performance with an average energy reduction of 50%.  This will give the district a yearly savings on our electric bill that will allow us to pay for the loan to replace three sections of the roof and all of the windows at Winona Secondary School.

Attendance Reminder  In order to be counted present, all students must complete the assigned work daily.  On the days hybrid students are at home, they are completing required work in all of their classes which should take them quite a bit of time to complete. This includes Fridays which are not a day off for students or teachers. At-home students must login daily to the assigned programs and classes and complete the assigned work to be counted as present and to earn grades for each assigned course.

Child Nutrition - All students are able to get breakfast and lunch each day.  Students who are participating in the hybrid schedule pick up food each afternoon for their at-home days.  At-Home Learning Program students are able to pick up on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Winona Career and Technical parking lot.  For more information, call the Child Nutrition Department at (662) 283-1007.
