On Wednesday, January 22, 2020, the Winona Secondary School faculty, staff, and students participated in an active shooter drill. The drill was initiated by the Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District Police Department in order to test active shooter procedures and determine if there were any areas in need of improvement. One of the district’s goal is to maintain a safe and orderly school climate. Both WMCSD schools practice several types of drills to prepare WMCSD faculty, staff, and students for as many types of emergencies as possible.
Personnel from the Winona Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Winona Fire Department, Montgomery County EOC, MedStat, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol participated in and/or observed the drill to provide feedback to the district’s School Resource Officers Mac Burrell and Barry Gregg.
The participating entities will meet again on Friday, January 24th to determine the action steps needed for improvement.
