Successful students need consistent parental engagement. Here are some ways you can be involved in your child’s academic success. Parents of students in kindergarten through fourth grade, are you looking for ways you can help your child be a successful reader and student? The Mississippi Department of Education has a great parent resource for just that. Also, don’t forget about the FREE, unlimited, 24/7 academic support available to WMCSD students in grades 3-12 through Paper Learning. Students log in using their Clever accounts. For more information, contact your child’s teacher.
Parents of kindergarten students attended Kindergarten Parent Night on September 13th.
Seniors and their parents should make plans to attend Financial Aid Night on September 28th at 6:00pm in the WSS auditorium. ACT registration deadline for the October 22nd test is Friday, September 16th.
WSS is celebrating 199 students who will receive reward cards based on their performance on last year’s state tests. The reward card system is based on scoring Advanced and Proficient and on growth on the MAAP test. The rewards for these students will be explained in the assembly on Thursday, September 15th. Reward category totals are as follows: 27 Platinum, 28 Gold, 75 Silver, and 69 Bronze cards.
The MHS Mobile Dental Clinic will be at Winona Elementary the week of November 7th and at Winona Secondary School November 14th-16th. With parent consent, students have the opportunity to receive a dental exam, cleaning, fluoride, and sealants through this school-based mobile dental program. After the visit the child will receive a statement that lists services performed and additional information if needed. Click HERE or go to https://5il.co/1hp7j to view or print the consent form. A paper copy was sent home with students on September 7th. These must be returned to the school nurses by October 1st. Your WHS Tiger Football Team is matched up with Philadelphia High School for a 7:30pm home game on September 15th. The PeeWee Cheerleaders will be performing pregame at approximately 7:15. Remember tickets are available at the gate for $8.00. Come on out and support your TIGERS!
Don’t forget to take a pic of your favorite game moment and enter it in the McDonald’s Spotlight competition and earn money for WHS. All you have to do is take a picture of a favorite moment at the game and share it with #mcdonaldsspotlight.
The WJHS Football team will be playing at East Webster on September 19th. The 7th grade game will begin at 5:00 with 8th grade and JV to follow. The WHS Volleyball team will be in action on September 15th at home against Amanda Elzy for a district matchup. There will be only one varsity game beginning at 5:30. The VolleyTigers will have Senior Recognition before the game. The team will again be in action on the 20th at Home vs Yazoo County for a district matchup starting at 5:00. The Tigers Cross Country team will be running at Northwest Rankin on the 17th at 9:00.
