It’s a Great Day to be a Tiger!
This weekend, two members of the Pride of Winona Band participated in Mississippi State University’s Marching Honor Band. We are so proud of Hunter Lee and Nate Henson for this accomplishment.
This week, we hope everyone will participate in Tiger Spirit Fridays. Students and staff can show their appreciation for first responders by wearing red, white, and blue or dress up as a first responder. The WHS Football team will be traveling to J. Z. George this week. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm. In case you missed it, Tiger fans can enter the McDonald’s Spotlight competition and earn money for WHS. All you have to do is take a picture of a favorite moment at the game and share it with #mcdonaldsspotlight. The WJHS Football team will be playing at home against Water Valley on Monday, September 12, beginning with the 7th Grade game at 5:00pm. 8th Grade and JV will follow.
The WHS Volleyball team will take on Humphreys County and East Webster in competition on Thursday, September 8th. They will also travel to Humphreys County on Tuesday, September 13th for another division game. Be sure to check out their schedule on our website at winonamontgomerycsd.com and come out and support these Lady Tigers. Our Tigers Cross Country team will again be in action on Saturday, September 10th at French Camp at 9:00am.
Remember that all Tiger sports at Tiger Field and Knox Gym can be watched on the NFHS network with a subscription. Go to https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/ to log on and support the Tigers! You can create a free account, search for Winona High School, Winona, MS, and follow the Tigers, or you can subscribe so you can view all paid events.
September 5 - 9 is National Substitute Appreciation Week. A huge Tiger thank you to all of our substitutes. We are so thankful for you being willing to fill in when a teacher has to be out.
Progress Reports go home this week. Be looking for those on Wednesday, September 7th. Don’t forget that parents can sign up for ActiveParent and see grades, attendance, and discipline in real time. Winona Secondary students will also receive their state test scores. We encourage parents to review the information on the score sheet and contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
After-school tutoring begins Tuesday, September 6th at Winona Secondary. Students received a letter with sign up information for tutoring at the end of August. Parents can still take advantage of this tutoring for their students by calling WSS Counselor Mrs. Kim Haley at (662) 283-4129. Also, don’t forget about the FREE, unlimited, 24/7 academic support available to WMCSD students in grades 3-12 through Paper Learning. Students log in using their Clever accounts.
September 8th is International Literacy Day. Don’t be surprised if you get a call to come read to a class on this day when we are reminded how important literacy is for our students and communities.
Transportation is a big deal for school districts, and student safety is our number one priority. A reminder for parents of students at Winona Elementary is that your child must have a note for every day that he/she has a change in transportation. With nearly 700 elementary students, procedures must be followed so all students get home safely each afternoon.
WES Parent Nights are a great way for parents to engage with their children’s teachers and learn more about what is expected of students at each grade level. On Tuesday, September 6th grades 2 and 5 held their parent night. The next parent night is Thursday, September 8th at 5:00pm for parents of students in the 4th grade.
The Winona Secondary School renovation project will get underway this week as school and district representatives meet with our architect firm to discuss needs and develop a list of priorities for the project.
The next regular meeting of the WMCSD Board is September 13th at 6:00 pm at the Superintendent’s Office.
The Power of Positivity is evident in WMCSD!
