It’s a Great Day to be a Tiger!
What a rainy week it has been so far! If you have ever been a teacher, you know how hard it can be when the kids cannot go outside for recess or for their regular activities such as band and sports.
Important information for Parents of WMCSD Students: This Thursday, August 25th marks our fourth week in school and it won’t be long until academic progress reports go out for the first nine weeks. Parent involvement is essential to academic success so you will want to make sure you have signed up for ActiveParent. This program will allow you monitor your child’s grades, absences, tardies, and behavior. For questions regarding ActiveParent, please call your child’s school.
WHS Football games will begin at 7:30 pm during the months of August and September due to excessive heat. This Friday, we will be traveling to Choctaw County to take on the Chargers. The first home game will be September 2nd versus the Kosciusko Whippets. Come out and support the Tiger football team, cheerleaders, dance team, and band. As a reminder to parents, students in grades PreK through 8 and students not in school must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older.
Both schools are showing support of our student athletes by participating in Tiger Spirit Fridays this year. On Friday, August 26th we will participate in “Gear up Against the Chargers Day.” Students may wear their favorite jerseys with dress code pants, shorts, skorts, or skirts. Next week, the Tigers will be “Out of this World” wearing their best space attire, and we are looking forward to celebrating first responders on September 9th by wearing red, white and blue.
WHS Volleyball will be in action at home on August 23 versus Water Valley - games begin at 4:30 pm. The VolleyTigers will go on the road for a match on Thursday, August 25 versus Grenada. Those games will begin at 4:00 pm. On Saturday, the VolleyTigers will return to Knox Gym for the Inaugural Lady Tiger Invitational Tournament. The games Saturday will start at 9:00 am and continue throughout the day ending at 4:00 pm.
The Cross Country Team will begin their season at the Eagle Claw Invitational in Eupora on Saturday, August 27. The meet begins at 9:00 am. Be prepared to pay for parking, which serves as your entrance fee.
The WHS Color Guard is selling raffle tickets for a signed Peter’s Pottery pasta bowl. The drawing will be held on August 31st. Tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20. If you haven’t joined the WES PTO, WHS Athletic Boosters, or The Winona Pride Band Boosters, please consider doing so today. It takes a lot of volunteers to conduct athletic and artistic events for our students.
The Athletic Boosters have customizable yard signs available for all WMCSD extracurriculars for $40 each. These signs look fantastic! Please see Amber Austin for more information, or call 662-283-3631.
The next regular meeting of the WMCSD Board is September 13th at 6:00 pm at the Superintendent’s Office.
The Power of Positivity is evident in WMCSD!
