It’s a Great Day to be a Tiger!
ACADEMIC PROGRAMMING School-family partnerships are vital to the success of our students and the future of our community. The following information is from The Center for Parent and Teen Communication’s website parentandteen.com. The article is “11 Ways Parents Can Get Involved in Schools.”
“A school-family partnership does more than enhance academic achievement. When parents and teachers work together, students report higher levels of motivation and self-esteem. Students also develop key social and emotional learning skills, such as self-awareness, relationship building, and responsible decision-making. Young people develop these skills when programs are coordinated across settings, including home and school. When families and educators work together, they reinforce the kind of behaviors and skills young people need to become successful adults.
The reality is that not all schools have the same resources. But the good news is that parental involvement makes a real difference in schools everywhere. We hope for a nation in which all young people have schools with the resources needed to educate and prepare youth. Whether your school has all it needs or deserves more, involved parents make a difference.”
OPERATIONS Effective Monday, January 31, 2022, WMCSD staff, including school resource officers, will not be able to direct traffic to allow students to cross the highway. We highly recommend that parents of students who walk to Winona Elementary School walk them to and from school or drop them off by vehicle in the car rider line.
No student should walk to a vehicle parked at a location off campus. Parents should use the car rider line to pick up students from school. Remember, if you plan to change your child’s transportation, please come to Winona Elementary School’s Office to complete the necessary paperwork.
COMMUNICATIONS February 13 - 19, 2022 is School Board Member Recognition Week in Mississippi. School board members in the Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District inspire team leadership. They are the voice of schools in the community and the community’s voice in schools. Please join us in honoring the members who service on our WMCSD school board - Brandye Brannon, Chase DeNoon, Nora Dunn, Dr. Katherine Hughes, and Jill White. The dedication of each of our board embers to students and the community makes our schools places where all children can discover their interests and prepare for their futures.
The WMCSD Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm in the Superintendent's Office Conference Room.
HEALTH AND SAFETY The number of students and employees who are having to quarantine and who are testing positive are decreasing. Students and staff are reminded often to wear their masks properly to prevent the spread of the latest variant.
The week of January 3rd, WMCSD has 38 employees quarantined with 20 of those testing positive. The numbers have decreased weekly as we had 18 employees quarantined with 10 testing positive the week of January 10th and only 4 quarantining each of the weeks of the 17th and the 24th with 4 and 1 testing positive each week respectively.
Student cases have decreased as well. The first week back after the holidays there were 152 students quarantined with 58 testing positive. The week of January 10th we had 132 students quarantined with 60 testing positive. The last two weeks have seen 67 and 54 students quarantined with 29 and 24 students testing positive.
