May is always an exciting month as WMCSD celebrates the year’s successes and honors our seniors. It is also a busy month, so be sure to check the district website at www.winonamontgomerycsd.com for our calendar of events. This week, Winona Secondary held BETA Club Induction ceremonies. On May 10th, WSS will recognize students who have earned academic awards, and on May 11th, student athletes will be recognized for their outstanding achievements. The WSS Choir students will present a spring concert on Thursday, May 13 at 6:00pm.

Operations BUILDINGS - The air conditioner project at Knox Gym is nearing completion. Our teams will be able to conduct summer workouts in a climate-controlled setting this year. The window project at Winona Secondary School will be completed in the first part of June with the final part being the installation of new blinds to all windows.
BUSES - WMCSD has been awarded an AHERA grant which will enable us to purchase another bus. The AHERA grant is part of a “going green” initiative and requires the district to decommission a bus with higher emissions.
ATHLETICS - Tiger Baseball will be competing in the 2nd round of the State Playoffs Thursday Night 6:00 at home. Admission is $7.00.

Health and Safety WMCSD continues to follow COVID-19 protocols and has very few to no quarantines.

Technology/Learning Management Systems We are reaching out to ask WMCSD parents to take part in a Technology & Learning questionnaire. All responses will remain anonymous to protect privacy. A big thank you to those parents who have already completed the survey. We have 90 WES parents and 33 WSS parents who have completed the survey.

Winona Elementary Summer School Plans Summer School will be offered to students who have completed kindergarten through third grade and have experienced the greatest learning loss. Students will attend classes Monday through Thursday from 8:30-11:30am on June 7 through July 1. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
The focus of the summer session at WES will be assisting students who have experienced the most learning loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students will be chosen based on scores from i-Ready, ELS, and STAR and on classroom grades. Each grade level will recommend around 20 students. Winona Secondary Summer School Plan There are several options for WSS students to participate in online and in-person classes this summer. Please read carefully to see what option is best for your child. If you have questions, please call the school at (662) 283-1244.
Option 1: Credit Recovery for students who failed an academic course this year.
- June 1-June 29 from 8:30-11:30am.
- On campus. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
- Students who completed grades 7 and 8 with a grade of 60 to 64.
- Students who completed grades 9 through 12 and failed a Carnegie credit course with any grade below 65.
Option 2: Earning a Credit for students who would like to earn one (1) Carnegie unit. Students will receive the grade earned which will be part of their cumulative grade point average. Students will only be allowed to take advantage of this option for one summer session during their high school career and are expected to take the next course in the high school sequence in the fall after completing the summer course.
- June 1-July 28
- Online. Course will be self-paced by the student.
- Students who have completed grades 10 or 11.
- Final proctored exam will be cumulative - July 27 or 28.
- Courses offered are English III, Geometry, and Algebra II.
Option 3: Summer Learning Enrichment Camp for 7th and 8th grade students who passed all courses with a 65 or higher, but would like to receive more instruction in English and/or math.
- June 1-June 29 from 8:30-11:30am.
- On campus. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
- Students who have completed grades 7 and 8.
- No grades will be given for this program.
Option 4: Summer Learning Enrichment Online Learning for 9th through 11th grade students who passed all of their courses with a 65 or higher, but would like to receive more instruction in preparation for the next school. This is designed for students who have had to miss school multiple times, need a refresher, want to begin learning Spanish in preparation for taking it in the fall, or want to participate in ACT Prep courses.
- June 1-July 29
- Online.
- No grades nor Carnegie unit will be given.
- No more than 3 courses may be taken during this summer session.
