It’s a Great Day to be a TIGER!
On November 3rd, Montgomery County residents will elect 5 school board members. The current board has two meetings left before an all elected board takes office in January 2021. Board members are President Cheryl Small, Vice President Jill White, Secretary Brandye Brannon, Member Tim Privitt, and Member Nora Dunn. We would like to thank our School Board members for their service to the students of Winona-Montgomery CSD.
Academic Programming Students are adjusting well to the full traditional schedule. We anticipate that everyone will need some time to adjust to the new schedule and workload. Parents should check ActiveParent regularly to monitor their student’s progress and absences. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
Operations Our buses are quite full as most parents have opted to put their children back on the buses. WMCSD encourages parents to transport their children to school by private vehicle if you have concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19.
TIGER FOOTBALL is now 5-1 with wins against Kosciusko, J. Z. George, Yazoo County, Water Valley, and Humphreys County. The Tigers only loss was against 6A Madison Central. Winter sports are getting started. We wish them luck and look forward to lots of Tiger wins in basketball and soccer.
Family and Community Support The Superintendent’s P16 Advisory Council/COVID-19 Task Force met Monday, October 19th at 3:00pm. Thirteen members were in attendance. Information was shared with the group in the six areas listed here and questions and concerns were gathered from the group.
Health and Safety WMCSD encourages students and employees to protect yourselves at all times. When you are not at school please remember to wear your mask, wash your hands often, and distance yourself from others as much as possible.
The school day is very structured and protocols are followed closely. As soon as the school gets information about a positive test, two or more school leaders begin investigating and contact tracing as needed. WMCSD closely follows the guidance of the MS State Department of Health and the CDC. We have access to MSDH epidemiologists and contact tracing services when needed. A parent will be notified by his/her child’s school if the student is a group contact or close contact with someone who has tested positive. Parents will receive a letter and/or phone call to notify them of group or close contact and to provide them with instructions as to next steps including quarantine, isolation, and testing. We ask parents to please notify the school immediately of any known cases who are attending school or school events so we may investigate as quickly as possible in order to protect all students and employees.
Thank you to Dr. Keith Rushing and Winona Family Practice for sending staff to the schools to give WMCSD employees flu shots. We are thankful that 102 employees were able to get their flu shots without having to take off work.
Communications Check out the new look of the WMCSD website at www.winonamontgomerycsd.com. Technology/Learning Management Systems WMCSD is excited to announce that 1,300 Chromebooks have been delivered to the district. WMCSD used ESSER funds to purchase technology for our students. The district’s total responsibility was $167,260.
Technology Director Wesley King, Business Manager Amanda Gray, and Academic Officer/Federal Programs Director Peggy Jackson worked closely with MDE to make this happen. Thank you to them, the school board, and the district leadership team for working through all the details that will make these devices most effective in the education of our students.
Please remember that a lot of work has to be done before students are able to use the computers. The computers are property of the school district and must be counted, assigned a fixed asset number, and entered into our system. Then, the computers will need to have programs loaded to protect our students and students will have to be trained on how to use the devices.
Stay healthy and choose joy!
