Tiger

It’s a Great Day to be a TIGER!  What an awesome first week of school!  Everyone is excited to be back and doing a great job with wearing face coverings, physical distancing, and washing hands.  This year promises to be a challenging, yet exciting one as we work to offer our students an outstanding educational experience in an environment that is new to all of us.

This year we will focus on each of us learning to be the LEADER our students, their families, and our colleagues deserve.  The theme for WMCSD is LEADER - so simple, yet such a challenge and call to action as we commit ourselves to:

  • Listen to Learn
  • Empathize to Earn
  • Advocate to Advance
  • Delegate to Develop
  • Expect to Excel
  • Respond to Respect

You will see us use #LEADER as we keep the theme at the forefront of our thoughts and actions throughout the 2020-2021 school year.

Health and Safety - We must have the help of our parents in keeping our students and staff healthy and safe.  It is critical that students stay home when they are not feeling well or when anyone in the home has symptoms of COVID-19, is awaiting test results, or has tested positive.  The district will communicate with parents when there is a group contact, close contact, or positive test.

Hybrid Schedule - In order to practice physical distancing, half of the students choosing the hybrid schedule attend on Mondays and Wednesdays and the other half attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Class sizes are very small allowing teachers and students to build strong relationships and accomplish much teaching and learning in the time allotted.

Attendance - Students are counted present on the days they attend in person and on the days they complete work from home.  In order to be counted present, students must complete the assigned work daily.  This includes hybrid students and at-home learning students.  The school calendar can be found on our website.  On the days hybrid schedule students are at home, they are completing required work in all of their classes which should take them quite a bit of time to complete. This includes Fridays which are not an off day for students or teachers as the students will have assignments to complete and teachers will be planning lessons, monitoring student progress, communicating with parents, and participating in professional development.

Training for At-Home Learning - Parents of students participating in the WMCSD At-Home Learning Program are required to attend training this week.  Winona Secondary School scheduled training for 3:00pm on August 11-13.  On Tuesday, parents of 7th and 8th grade students attended.  Wednesday was designated for parents of 9th and 10th graders, and Thursday is for juniors and seniors.  Winona Elementary School will be meeting with parents of virtual students on Friday, August 14th at the following times:  11:00 for 1st and 2nd grade parents, 11:45 for 5th and 6th grade parents, and 12:30 for 3rd and 4th grade parents. Parents will be signing a virtual learner agreement and pick up students assignments for the first week of school.

Child Nutrition - All students are able to get breakfast and lunch each day.  Students who are participating in the hybrid schedule pick up food each afternoon for their at-home days.  At-Home Learning Program students are able to pick up on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Winona Career and Technical parking lot.  For more information, call the Child Nutrition Department at (662) 283-1007.

Communication - We encourage everyone to visit our website often at winonamontgomerycsd.com and check out the NEWS and LiveFeed sections for new information.  You may also use the super easy search button in the top right corner - it looks like a magnifying glass.  We would also like for you to like our Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District pages on Facebook and Twitter to see all the great things happening at WMCSD.
