The Winona-Montgomery School District will be recognized by the Mississippi Association of Partners in Education for its partnership with the Winona community as one of the top school-community partnerships in the state.
The district will be honored for winning the District and Community-Wide Partnership Excellence Award at the Governor’s Awards Celebration on May 20.
Winona-Montgomery School District earned the award for multiple community partnerships including the district’s employee incentive program, Tiger Perks. Tiger Perks provides district personnel discounts at local businesses and restaurants as a reward for their dedication to the students of Winona and Montgomery County. In addition, it encourages employees to “SHOP LOCAL.”
“Winona-Montgomery School District is striving to be one of the top school districts in the state, and it can’t do that without the support of an outstanding community,” said Dr. Howard Savage, Jr., Superintendent of Education. “We have enjoyed immense support from this community for decades, and I am thrilled that longtime commitment is being recognized statewide.”
Winona-Montgomery School District was among several districts throughout Mississippi honored for community partnerships.
“We had an incredible number of applicants for the Governor’s Awards competition this year,” said David Schommer, MAPE president. “Scores were very close reflecting a high level of competition. They exemplify what can be achieved in Mississippi, through effective collaboration with community partners.”
Savage stressed the importance of community in the success of a school district.
“This district’s objective to become one of the top school districts in the state would not be possible without the commitment and encouragement of those living and working in this community,” Savage said. “It is the foundation of which Tiger Nation continues to build.”
