At Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District, it is important to recognize educators for their hard work and continued dedication to this profession. Teachers in this school district give their all to engage and enrich students’ lives. This week, we celebrate the teachers in this district.
These teachers are the 2022-2023 winners for the highest achievements in STAR Data and MAAP Assessments at Winona Elementary School. They were rewarded with various prizes for their outstanding accomplishments. This would not have been possible without the help of the PTO, led by Mrs. April Johnson. Winona Elementary School would like to send its sincere gratitude for their continuous support to the school, the teachers, and the students.
Students of Winona Elementary School will also be honored with a VIP Night. This night will honor all students who scored proficient and/or demonstrated growth on the 2022-2023 MAAP Assessments. More details will be provided later for this special occasion.
Ms. Mary Bond (Kindergarten Teacher)
Winner: Highest Proficiency on MKAS for the 2022-2023 School Year
Winner: Most Growth on MKAS for the 2022-2023 School Year
My name is Mary Shelton Bond. I completed my teaching degree at Delta State University. With four years of experience in early childhood education, I have recognized the vital role parents play in a child's education by having an open line of communication at all times. I am honored to receive this “award” for most growth and highest proficiency on MKAS. I hope this “shows” the excellence and dedication I have for my students. Beyond the classroom, I am actively involved in the Junior Auxiliary of Greenwood. My commitment to community engagement reflects a belief in the transformative potential of education as a force of positive change.

Winner: Most Growth on MKAS for the 2022-2023 School Year (Ms. Bond’s Teaching Partner)
WES has always been dear to my heart. After being on the WES PTO for over 10 years and being a substitute teacher for four years, I decided to officially join the Winona Elementary School family as an instructional assistant in 2020 during the peak of Covid. Some questioned my choice to enter the classroom at such a scary time, but I knew this was God’s plan for me. I love helping children learn and grow. I also love working with my teaching partner, Ms. Mary Bond. We make a great team!

Mrs. Serena Bramlett (Second Grade ELA Teacher)
Winner: Most Growth on STAR (Reading and Math) for the 2022-2023 School Year
Ever since I was a child, I have always wanted to teach. I started teaching in Sardis, MS when I was 21. I’ve been really fortunate to have been mentored by so many great educators and was blessed to become lifelong friends with them. I have been teaching for over twenty years, and I love my career. I would like to finish my remaining years here in the Winona Montgomery Consolidated School District. This institution has taught me a lot. Also, I could not have done it without my teacher partner, Mrs. Anita Clay. I’m so grateful and honored to have received this award. Thank you!
Mrs. Anita Clay (First Grade Instructional Assistant)
Winner: Most Growth on STAR (Reading and Math) for the 2022-2023 School Year (Mrs. Bramlett’s Teaching Partner)
I have worked at WES for 15 years. I’ve enjoyed working alongside many great educators (young and old). I also enjoy watching our students find their way when they have learned how to read fluently or solve a math problem independently. I love being a Tiger at WES.

Mrs. Jessica Browning (Second-Grade Math Teacher)
Winner: Highest Proficiency on STAR (Reading and Math) for the 2022-2023 School Year
My name is Jessica Browning. I started my teaching career here at Winona Elementary School. I have been teaching for eight years. I taught kindergarten for six years, and I loved every second of teaching my kinder- babies! Two years ago, I was moved to second grade math. I was nervous but as it turned out, I absolutely love it! I work with the most amazing people in second grade! I am grateful for their leadership and willingness to help, as I was a new to this grade. I had the most wonderful co-teachers as well, Mrs. Loggins and Ms. Flowers. This recognition would not be possible without them. They are true “ROCKSTARS!” Lastly, to our students. I cannot thank them enough for working so hard! They truly wanted to learn and made my job so easy. Most of all fun, they made it fun! It is such a blessing to “want” to come to work each day and love what I do. WES is really blessed with the best students!
Mrs. Terry Loggins (Second-Grade Instructional Assistant)
Winner: Highest Proficiency on STAR for the 2022-2023 School Year (Mrs. Browning’s Teaching Partner)
I am a paraprofessional with WMCSD. I have served teachers, students, and parents for over five years. I take pride in the work that I do at Winona Elementary School. I am very humble and grateful to be a part of the “progress” that the students have achieved.” I enjoy helping others, spending time with my loved ones, and church family/friends. I would like to continue to work and grow within the district. It is an amazing feeling to know that I am working in the capacity that God has ordained for me.

Mr. Robert Trenton Holly (Third Grade Inclusion Teacher)
Winner: Most Growth on STAR Reading for Exceptional Education for the 2022-2023 School Year
I have been in the teaching profession for a little more than twenty-five years. I graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in K-8 Education and later received my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Mississippi. I have taught both general education and exceptional education. Over the years, I have really enjoyed being able to watch our students show growth in their academic goals. I am so proud of what my students have been able to accomplish. I have now reached a point in my career where I can witness our students in their pursuit of life goals as adults. I brag that now I get to work with former students who I now get to call colleagues.

Ms. Rebekah Jenkins (Fourth Grade ELA Teacher)
Winner: Most Growth on MAAP Assessment (Reading and Math) for the 2022-2023 School Year
Teaching has always been my passion ever since I can remember. I love knowing that I have the power to make a difference, even if just for one child. To know that a child can feel at home in my class and to be able to
watch them grow, learn, and become the best version of themselves is an incredible privilege. Teaching is not just a job, it is a mission and a calling. 13 years in education across two states has been such an
incredible journey. In the 2016-2017 school year, I was awarded Teacher of the Year at the school in which I taught in Alabama. I have taught fourth and sixth grade, along with every subject and various curriculums, and during Covid, I taught fourth through twelfth grades (virtually). While being in Mississippi for just three years, I have had the honor to be a part of the Superintendent's Advisory Council and became the lead teacher in my grade with some of the best co-workers. I graduate in December with my Masters in Educational Leadership with a concentration in School Administration. I am truly blessed to live out my childhood dream every day.

Mr. Edward Penn (Fifth Grade ScienceTeacher)
Winner: Highest Proficiency on MAAP Assessment (Reading, Science, and Math) for the 2022-2023 School Year
I graduated from Ole Miss with a bachelor’s in Elementary Education (with an emphasis on science and social studies). Later, I received my masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a Stem emphasis. I have 12 years teaching experience, all at WES. I began there in 2011 as a student teacher and was hired in 2012 to be the 5th grade science teacher. I enjoy teaching at WES and can’t imagine being anywhere else. WMCSD schools are great, and the administrators and staff are amazing! I teach science, because I love it, and I hope that my passion inspires some of our students to take on careers in STEM in the future.
